I’m Ellie Clewlow. I have institutional responsibility for quality in learning and teaching services at Newcastle University (but the views expressed on this blog are my own rather than those of my institution, etc etc).
My research interest is in the creation of academic, biographical and clerical identities in the nineteenth century university, as illustrated through the life of logician and biographer, John Venn. It is his work on the diagrammatic representation of sets, or Venn diagrams, that inspired the name of this blog.
On this blog you will find posts on my professional interests and higher education. My personal blog, Hinterland, is where I post on my other interests.

I’ve just come across your blog – as a result of your linking to mine – and it’s really interesting, and a couple of your posts made me laugh. Speaking as a coffee-drinking observer of the 19th century, we may have some things in common.
I hope all is well in Bath – what a wonderful town in which to live.

Thanks for the comment – I’ve been following your entries on higher education in Ireland with interest – particularly the recent entry on the choice between Boston and Berlin.
